The Power of Polo

The Client Brief

Power of Polo, a relatively new British sports charity contacted Jazzy Bee with a fixed budget asking how we could film as much of their work as possible to show how they are helping those in need and how the sport empowers individuals to make positive changes to their lives. The charity were immensely proud that all participants who took part in these courses would have the opportunity to come together and play in a friendly match at Guards Polo Club on the day of the Windsor Cup semi-final, which is one of the most elitist and highly regarded tournaments in the International Polo calendar, a favourite of the HRH the late Queen Elizabeth and regularly attended by the Royal Family.

The charity really needed a film that would raise its profile within its sector and also capture the attention of potential future investment. Covid had really stilted their growth as charity in being able to run courses and events and funding was equally tricky in an uncertain time. This film was to demonstrate that his charity was back and thriving again.

The Challenge

The charity runs residential courses for people with different needs throughout the year across the UK, so it wasn’t financially feasible with a fixed budget to be able to film every day and deliver a film about every course which of course would have been the charity’s ideal.

Our Approach

We wanted the charity to get as much value as possible from their budget so we came up with a proposal to film a selection of key days at each of the residential courses as well as the big celebratory charity event at Guards Polo Club where all participants from all the courses would come together for the first time and play a friendly match and enjoy a day being hosted by the sponsors of the Windsor Cup.

By doing this we could action the following plan.

Phase 1 - Immediate Delivery

  1. Deliver a celebratory mini feature film that would showcase everything the charity had achieved throughout the year culminating in their celebratory event at Guards Polo club.
  2. Deliver a shorter version of this feature for their website and marketing.

Phase 2 - Future Investment from Repurposing filmed material

  1. Our filming strategy means the charity can Repurpose the material at any point in the future to make more content. Anything from 60 second social blasts to more detailed pieces.
  2. By filming a selection of  carefully chosen days from each of the courses means the charity have the option to come back to us to make a series of short individual films about the USP of  each of courses, which is something they really want to do.

The Result

We delivered the films from the phase one stage which were released across social media and the charity’s own website. This has helped the charity gain more recognition for their services, secure further funding and helped them gain the attention of influential celebratory people.

Repurposing from phase two is also underway. So far, we have repurposed one extra film which was requested by the current sponsor of the charity. We were asked to make a film that would be watched solely by the board of the charity’s corporate sponsor in Tokyo. This was to help the charity secure another year of funding by the corporate’s UK representative. It needed to be three minutes long and give a snapshot of the good work the charity were doing. It also had to be subtitled into Japanese. Another film from phase 2 is also in the pipeline for release. Watch this space.

Jazzy Bee really enjoyed helping Power of Polo get not just their voice heard and seen but also all those that they help.  The short feature film is being entered into the Smiley Charity Film Awards 2025.
